What are these Earthtiles I’m hearing about?

Earthtiles are wooden magnetic building toys. Kids stick them together to build houses, rockets, dodecahedrons (if uniform polyhedra are their thing), and more. They’re made from sustainably-sourced wood, which is great news for our kids and the world they inhabit.

We designed these toys to encourage creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration — the most important skills for modern learning. We incorporated loads of feedback from kids, parents, and teachers to get everything right — the size, the feel of the wood, the strength of the magnets, and most importantly, the pure experience of building things.

We started out making Earthtiles by hand in limited batches just for family and friends. In April 2017, we raised funds on Kickstarter for our initial factory order with the help of our awesome backers. Since then, we’ve started selling on our website, on Amazon, and in select toy stores. We’re stoked about getting Earthtiles out to many more families, and changing an industry that’s dominated by cheap, plastic stuff.

Who the heck are you?

We’re Steven and Kristin Rho. We’re parents and makers. We had our first daughter in 2011, and since then, we’ve seen our share of crappy, mostly plastic toys, lots of which end up in the trash. It dawned on us that toys could be made better — with sustainable materials and with a kid’s development in mind. We couldn’t find that specific combination of educational and eco-friendly toys anywhere, so we started making the toys ourselves.

Steve taught himself woodworking, bought a desktop CNC machine to cut the wooden pieces, and after a bunch of kid-testing and design iterations, we had the first prototype for Earthtiles.

When did you launch?

We launched on Earth Day — April 22nd, 2017. Makes sense, right? Here’s a link to our Kickstarter page: http://kck.st/2p5YVem

Okay, show me the goods.
